Cover of The Grit That Makes The Pearl

This is the official website for Scottish traditional musicians Hugh Marwick and Stuart Mackintosh. In the summer of 2010, they recorded their debut album, The Grit That Makes The Pearl, in the West coast of Scotland.

The album features a wide variety of tunes written by both Hugh (on whistles) and Stuart (on accordion) along with some older, traditional pieces. There are also collaborations with the fantastic Gaelic singer, Eilidh Mackenzie. Fiddle is provided by Gavin Marwick (Bellevue Rendezvous) with Sean Cousins on drums, Callum MacGillivray on pipes and Ewan Hemingway on piano. The band are now known collectively as The Gritters.

You can see the band performing at one of the gigs on the right, or purchase the album by visiting the store page. You can also watch a live performance from the Ironworks in Inverness

The band are available to play for various events and festivals, and are willing to travel! For more information, please get in touch.
